"Everything a budding inventor needs to know" is just some of the feedback the AIC has received following its distribution of 1,500 Inventor's Took Kits across Australia last month, as a complement to the AIC's web-based self-help Inventors Service.
In 2008, the AIC was asked by the Queensland Government to provide a free specialised service to entrepreneurs resident in Queensland. The AIC subsequently developed a web-based self-help system called the Inventors Service to provide the resources needed, so these individuals could assess their ideas and begin to prepare their idea for market entry.
To enhance this service, the AIC recently produced a physical "Inventor's Tool Kit" as a resource for parliamentarians to be aware of and distribute in their electorates across Queensland, as well as to Senators and Federal MPs nationwide.
The tool kit, compiled in partnership with Shelston IP Patent Attorneys, contains practical information about intellectual property, business planning, funding opportunities and market research that provides inventors and entrepreneurs with the resources they need to take their first steps in commercialising their idea.
Moreover, the tool kits will address one of the many challenges faced by members of parliament in providing guidance to entrepreneur or inventor constituents who approach them seeking assistance and funding to commercialise their idea.
The Inventor's Tool Kits have been well received and the AIC has already had requests for additional kits due to the demand.
Some of the feedback from MPs and Senators to date has included:
"The Inventor Tool Kits will be most useful when assisting constituents who seek advice or guidance with regard to commercialising their ideas and I commend your company on this worthwhile initiative."
"These kits will undoubtedly provide very valuable information for people in the throes of commercialising their ideas. You are to be congratulated on compiling such a great resource."
"These kits are packed with information to close the gap between having a bright idea and actually turning out a product ready for the market. Aside from one of these kits, all an inventor needs is the inspiration to dream up a concept and the perspiration to develop it properly."
The AIC was supported by the Endeavour Foundation in distributing the 1,500 Inventor's Tool Kits across Australia.
