Modulek leads innovation in Southern Adelaide

For Modulek Managing Director Mark Fahey, taking home an award for his new product at the 2010 Southern Adelaide Innovation Forum Award on April 29 has been a great journey and great achievement.

As key sponsor, Greg Boundy, Innovate SA’s Chief Executive is proud to be supporting business owners just like Mark with commercialisation and grant application assistance.

“The Southern Innovation Forum has evolved to become a premier event for Southern Adelaide. We are able to recognise excellence in innovation and showcase the work of some outstanding businesses such as Modulek.
“We would like to congratulate the finalists and winner Mark Fahey and Modulek who took home the award for Innovation in a Product, Process or Service Award for 2010.”

Mark attended this year’s Forum held at the Ridley Pavilion at the Wayville Showground which provides a unique opportunity for businesses to network and gain the latest information on the direction and future trends for Southern Adelaide.

A qualified electrician by trade, Mark started his company Modulek in 2005 after running his own electrical contracting business and identifying a gap in the market.

Modulek’s award wiring innovation, 'Wire By Click’ uses the same cable currently used in the industry for ‘hard wiring’ and eliminates the often frustrating and time consuming task of trying to terminate electrical outlets and fittings in the roof space.

“For example, currently in a lighting installation, outlets are positioned according to the layout requirements at that time and are terminated at the appropriate points. To add to or alter the installation, new cable is required and the terminations need to be re-wired which is costly and wasteful.

"With our soft wiring modular solution, we supply a product range of ‘pre-made’ cables that are fitted with smart adapters and sockets. These are simply purchased at predetermined lengths and once onsite and are ‘clicked’ together and configured according to the required layout.

“The advantage of this type of wiring solution is that no terminations are required onsite and the products can be re-used and added to or altered at any time.

“There is also a significant time saving of up to 50% less than traditional hard wiring.”

The Southern Innovation Forum is also the launch pad for The Australian Innovation Festival. The Festival calls for South Australian businesses with innovative products and services to register on the Innovation Forum website throughout the month of May.
