Launch of the 2012 Australian Innovation Festival
Dates for this year’s Festival are from 26 April to 31 May 2012. State and Territory launches will be held prior to or just after 26 April. Events in the first week of June may also be included in the official program if they are in line with the Festival objectives of showcasing the best that Australia can offer in terms of innovation and entrepreneurship. In excess of 400,000 people will be attending the expected 700 plus events throughout Australia. There will be increased coverage this year from our media partners, 24 associate innovation festivals and new initiatives such as the national Vision 2020 series and New Exchange magazine.
The 2012 Festival Theme ‘Creating the Knowledge Economy’ will be supported by the continuing focus on the four C’s of innovation - Creativity, Connections, Collaboration and Commercialisation.
Sofitel Wentworth is the venue for the National/NSW Festival launch on 20 April 2011. Invited speakers include the Hon. Greg Combet, Federal Industry and Innovation Minister.

Future of the AFL: Building a Global Code
Next year will see the launch of Greater Western Sydney Giants FC.
This will bring to 18 the number of AFL clubs in the national competition. There are also plans to further expand ‘Australian Rules' to a global audience. This first event in the Vision 2020 series is on 15 March 2012 in Melbourne. Speakers for this luncheon at the Medallion Club, Etihad Stadium include:

· Caroline Wilson, Chief Football Editor, The Age
· Cameron Schwab, Chief Executive Officer, Melbourne Football Club
· Ian Johnson, Chair, Seven Network Melbourne
Many current and former AFL football legends are coming to this first event.
The Vision 2020 series has been established by AusInnovation and Variety to explore and discuss the driving forces shaping Australia for the next decade. There are 9 major events in 2012, in Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle and Perth.
